Using Our Strengths To Help Us Be Happier At Work

Using Our Strengths To Help Us Be Happier At Work

We spend a lot of time at work. When we are happy at work, we are likely to also be happier in the rest of our life. But how can we use our strengths to encourage feelings of happiness, regardless of our current challenges?

When we talk about strengths, we highlight the impact on our performance and energy, but there are additional benefits of using our strengths that can help us build happiness habits into our everyday lives.

Using Strengths To Achieve Positive Outcomes

Strengths are our potential to thrive and there are simple ways that using our strengths can have a positive impact.

Research shows that when we use our strengths, a positive side effect is that our happiness and wellbeing improve.  This is because when we use our strengths, we are doing the activities that we do well and enjoy doing.

Which Colour Are You At Work?

Have a think about which of these traits you exhibit most at work:

BLUE - Cautious

  • Responsible
  • Methodical
  • Goal Orientated

RED - Dominant

  • Direct
  • Quick thinking
  • Competitive

GREEN - Steady

  • Caring
  • Calming
  • Makes time for people

YELLOW - Influencing

  • Collaborative
  • Optimistic
  • Influential

Think about a time when you were using a strength of yours and how you felt during that moment. How can you apply your colours strengths to the following?

Relationships at work

Can you identify how you can help others with your colours skills and build trust and relationships in the process?

Goal setting

Are you setting goals in a way that suits your colour? Do you need clearly defined goals or more general goals that are more flexible?

Feeling valued

Are you using your colours skills effectively at work and being recognised for it?

Dealing with negativity

When you are feeling down or stressed, how can you lean on your strengths to help you through challenges?

This Happiness At Work Week is the perfect time to think about your natural traits at work and the skills you are naturally suited to and how you can apply them for greater happiness at work.
