It's Wellness Month 2023!

It’s Wellness Month 2023!

August is National Wellness Month, a time for prioritising your self-care, managing stress, and promoting healthy routines.

How will you create habits to feel like your best?

Catching up with friends that you haven’t seen in a while, kickstarting a new exercise routine or helping take care of people within your community can all contribute to your wellness levels, leading to a healthier and happier lifestyle. But remember, wellness can mean different things to each person and so taking things off your plate and doing less may be your focus for the month.

New Habits This Wellness Month

Why not introduce healthy habits into your everyday life this Wellness Month?

Here are some simple ideas to incorporate this month:

  • Swap Alcoholic Drinks Out For Soft Drinks
  • Listen To A Wellness Podcast Each Morning
  • Add 15 Minutes of Cardio Into Your Day
  • Meditate
  • Take Time Each Day To Learn A New Skill
  • Spend Time Outside Every Day
  • Drink More Water
  • Make Time to Read Every Day
  • Go On a Daily Walk

To Get Started This Wellness Month Check Out The ‘How Are You?’ Quiz

The NHS has created a free quiz called ‘How Are You.’ The quiz is designed to help you take a step back and to take 10 minutes of your time to check in with yourself and your lifestyle. The results will help guide you to healthier habits if you decide you would like to make changes to your health and lifestyle.

Mental Wellbeing

One central theme of wellness is your mental health. Having a healthy mind is the starting point for having the time and energy to connect and care for others and achieve what is important to you.

Did you know, according to the NHS, 1 in 4 adults experience mental illness?

Check out these resources for better mental health available for free and recommended by the NHS:

Catch It App. Making Sense Of Moods

Another easily accessible digital wellness tool is Catch It. Catch It is a joint project between the Universities of Liverpool and Manchester, to help users better understand their moods through the use of an ongoing diary.

Get the app here: Catch It – Make sense of moods on the App Store (apple.com)

The app was designed to illustrate some of the key principles of psychological approaches to mental health and well-being, specifically Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

It is a NHS Recommended App, however, it is not intended to be a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy or advice. If you are worried about any aspects of your mental health, you should approach a professional.

Volunteering Within The Community

Have you ever considered volunteering to connect with your local community?

Volunteers are crucial to the future of health and social care, as partners with our skilled staff, not as substitutes for them. Volunteering can provide challenging and rewarding opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Volunteering can be a one-off good deed you take on, or a longer-term commitment over months and even years. To find out more about where you can find volunteering opportunities near you, visit:

Volunteer Match

Volunteer Match has matched millions of people with volunteer opportunities.

When you type your location in the search bar, Volunteer Match lists all the work possibilities near you. You can sort by the cause you would like to support whether it be animals, children, seniors, women, or the arts.

Reach Volunteering

Do you have three or more years' professional experience? Reach’s skills-based volunteers support charities as trustees, on short term projects or with an ongoing commitment.

This Wellness Month is the perfect chance to think about what wellness means to you and how you would like to support the wellbeing of others. Whether it’s big or small wellness habits you make a change with, we hope you have a happy and healthy Wellness Month this August!
